Welcome to "Cougartown"

I have a smart, beautiful, funny friend, who I'm going to call Nikki. She is in her late forties, divorced and looking to meet Mr. Right.
I met her while she dated one of my other friends, who we will call Ed, but it's our friendship that has really blossomed. Nikki grew frustrated with Ed's non-committal attitude. I understood completely and pushed her to find happiness. While Nikki hasn't found prince charming just yet. I am so excited to say she is turning into one of the best flirts in her city. She shared this story with me this morning:

Get this, I was at a car dealership (never thought to hang out at one of those but there are tons of men there!) car shopping for my daughter. A thirty-something guy walks by and says "you look bored". I said I am and was he? He said yes and I said if you give me your number we can text. He did and we texted each other in the dealership while negotiations were going on with my salesman and his manager. So funny. Went out that night and the next. Welcome to cougartown!

She's welcoming herself proudly to a new elite group of women. A group of women who are not afraid to be daring. Not afraid to be themselves. Not afraid to open up to new people. As a woman in my twenties, I look up to these women.

While I obsess about my weight, my hair, my skin, my clothes, my job. These women are saying "I've got it." They are relaxed, beautiful and have so much confidence in themselves! Not only should we embrace these cougars, but also learn from them.

NAACP WIN Luncheon

Today I got to be a part of something really cool.
The NAACP WIN luncheon!
My friend and co-worker, Shiree Woody, was the guest speaker.
I work with Shiree everyday and share a laugh and a little gossip in between getting a newscast on the air. But today, I got to see a very polished, beautiful, smart woman. She inspired me to be a little bit better. and to start feeling more passionate about what I do.
It made me come back to "the blog."
*And, I got to meet her mom. Who is the founder of http://jeaniuswoman.com/
What a great message.
Never give up. Live the Life you want. Dream. Hold yourself accountable.

A New Day

It is almost 3 a.m. and I can't sleep.
This is going to be a big week.
I have that butterfly feeling like the night before Christmas as a kid, or the new start of a school year.
My brother is moving down and into my house. I'm excited. I'm worried for him. I'm wondering how things are going to change.
So many questions and unknowns.
And I'm someone all about "the plan."
I have a feeling there will be a lot to document this next year. I wanted to start this blog to document the laughs, the tears, and all the funny stories in between. Because when you get right down to it, isn't that life in a nutshell?
